Quality control

Quality control in submarine repair and maintenance is crucial to ensure that platforms are built, repaired and maintained to meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, and safety expectations. Some key aspects of quality control in submarine domain are outlined below.

Construction Site

Certification: Employing certified manufacturing and repair facilities, technicians and inspectors who have the necessary qualifications and expertise to carry out engineering and maintenance tasks to the required standards and qualifying suppliers through Naval Group’s stringent quality processes.

Quality management systems: Implementing quality management systems (QMS) such as ISO 9001 to establish processes and procedures for engineering services including repair and maintenance, supply of spares, ensuring consistency, traceability, and continuous improvement.

Inspection and testing: Conducting inspections and testing through life-cycle of systems and equipment’s for both onboard and workshop level activities during maintenance phase.

Documentation and records: Maintaining comprehensive documentation and records of construction and manufacturing phase for repair and maintenance activities, including work orders, inspection reports, test certificates, and compliance documentation. Proper documentation facilitates traceability, audits and regulatory compliance in a configured environment.

Material and component quality: Ensuring that materials and components used in execution and operational phase, meets the required quality standards and specifications. This includes verifying the authenticity, origin, and certification of materials, as well as monitoring suppliers and subcontractors for quality assurance.

Safety standards Prioritising safety throughout the industrial processes by adhering to established safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, providing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and implementing safety training for personnel involved in the work.

By implementing robust quality control measures, ship repair and maintenance facilities can ensure the reliability, safety, and seaworthiness of vessels while minimizing the risk of accidents, downtime, and environmental incidents.
